Boarding School Tear Sheets

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> Students can choose from over 150 courses, including more than 40 honors or advanced courses. &nbsp;There are 8 academic departments: English, mathematics/computer science, social studies, modern and classical languages, science, the arts, theology, health and wellness. &nbsp;Students must complete a certain amount of credits in each of these 8 academic departments and must earn at least 23 credits in 4 years to graduate. &nbsp;An essential part of the academic program at EHS is the Washington Program, a unique experiential education program</p>

Episcopal High School

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> Students can choose from 194 academic courses, which includes 28 advanced placement and honor courses. The curriculum follows a <strong>College-Model Academic Program (CMAP)</strong>, where students take more core academic courses in a year than at other schools: three full-year-equivalent courses each semester, which adds up to six for the whole school year. &nbsp;This structure closely resembles the curriculum that one would expect to be implemented on college campuses. &nbsp;Each class lasts 70 minutes. CMAP allows students to travel with their classmates and teachers for one to three weeks while continuing their studies. Students are required to attend <strong>Student Life Seminars</strong> that are organized by grade and meet every other week in small groups. &nbsp;These seminars are centered around conversations about the complexity of adolescence and life. &nbsp;Freshmen are required to complete a Health and Wellness seminar, sophomores must complete a diversity and social justice seminar, and juniors must complete college counseling workshops. &nbsp;Seniors are allowed to participate in a capstone project if they wish to pursue an interest not available in the curriculum. &nbsp;NMH’s Rhodes Arts Center is known to be one of the finest high school arts buildings in the country and hosts 60 student performances a year.</p>

Northfield Mount Hermon School

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> Pomfret School’s curriculum is student-centered with 54 honors and advanced courses to choose from. &nbsp;Each class is 70 minutes long. Some course options are forensic science, aquaponics, economics and entrepreneurship, astronomy, coding, animation, anthropology, and ceramics. &nbsp;Students in 11th and 12th grade may get approval to pursue an independent study as an elective course. &nbsp;Teachers are always available to meet during Office Hours, a twice weekly, 30-minute extra help period offered during the academic day on Mondays and Thursdays.</p>

Pomfret School

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> St. Timothy’s offers a globally respected International Baccalaureate Program. Students in grades 9 and 10 are a part of the <strong>Middle Years Program (MYP)</strong>, which encourages creative thinking, critical analysis, and reflection. &nbsp;MYP focuses on hands-on learning experiences centered around action, service, a community project, and a personal project. &nbsp;Students in grades 11 and 12 are a part of the <strong>Diploma Program (DP)</strong>, which combines intellectual exploration with hands-on independent projects. &nbsp;The curriculum educates students on theory of knowledge, extended essays, creativity, activity, and service. &nbsp;In DP, students are required to choose one subject from each of the six academic areas, where they will employ critical thinking and analysis. &nbsp;At the end of the course, students’ abilities are measured by means of external assessment. &nbsp;St. Timothy’s curriculum also requires a minimum of 120 service hours in order to graduate.</p>

St. Timothy’s School

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> Students can choose from a wide range of courses, including 28 Honors and AP courses. &nbsp;14 STEM courses are offered annually. &nbsp;The typical course load for most students each term is five full-credit courses. &nbsp;Each course meets twice a week for 45 minutes and twice a week for 70 minutes. &nbsp;Each student must take a leadership course each year.</p>

Suffield Academy

<p class="font_8"><strong>Curriculum:</strong> Students can choose from 172 courses, including 16 honors courses and 32 AP, Post AP, and Advanced Topics courses. &nbsp;Due to the school’s location by the sea, they offer 8 courses in Marine Science, which most students choose to take. &nbsp;Curriculum functions on a trimester system with 75-minute class periods and 4 periods per day. &nbsp;During a senior’s last trimester, they are allowed to drop classes to pursue a senior project which they then present before graduation. &nbsp;Students in good academic standing may plan an independent study with a faculty member and submit a proposal for approval.</p>
