Curriculum: St. Timothy’s offers a globally respected International Baccalaureate Program. Students in grades 9 and 10 are a part of the Middle Years Program (MYP), which encourages creative thinking, critical analysis, and reflection.  MYP focuses on hands-on learning experiences centered around action, service, a community project, and a personal project.  Students in grades 11 and 12 are a part of the Diploma Program (DP), which combines intellectual exploration with hands-on independent projects.  The curriculum educates students on theory of knowledge, extended essays, creativity, activity, and service.  In DP, students are required to choose one subject from each of the six academic areas, where they will employ critical thinking and analysis.  At the end of the course, students’ abilities are measured by means of external assessment.  St. Timothy’s curriculum also requires a minimum of 120 service hours in order to graduate.

Winterim: Students are required to participate in a two-week signature learning experience every January.  In 9th grade, students dive into our nation’s history and civic responsibilities during a hands-on road trip.  During three days of field exploration in Virginia, 9th graders will visit essential historical sites, such as the Jamestown Settlement, the Yorktown Victory Center, and Colonial Williamsburg.  Students will then explore our country’s most important buildings, monuments, and memorials throughout Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis.  In 10th grade, students embrace wellness and design thinking to center their spirit and stimulate their mind.  During the first week, 10th graders focus on Health and Wellness, encountering social identity, self-care, public health, and guided meditation through lessons, discussions, and workshops.  For the second week, students focus on the principles of innovation and design thinking through hands-on, project-based challenges- while exploring topics like women in engineering, coding, robotics, and 3D printing.  In 11th grade, students investigate critical thinking and inquiry to build a foundation for “Theory of Knowledge” through seminars and off-campus trips.  Off-campus trips consist of the National Symphony, the Holocaust Museum, the Embassy of Turkey, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Broadway.  In 12th grade, students prepare for the future by taking a series of mock IB exams, where they will learn proven test-taking strategies, receive individualized advising, get feedback on their progress, and become comfortable with the tests.

Global Immersion: All students of St. Timothy’s are given the opportunity to collaborate with communities throughout the world during Spring Break.  Joined by Head of School Randy Stevens, past students have traveled to China, Cuba, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, and the United Kingdom.  Some of these global immersion programs offer college credit.

Sports/Activity Requirements: St. Timothy’s is a member of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland, where students compete with 31 area high schools in basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, riding, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton.  Students may also choose to participate in non-conference varsity teams in golf, ice hockey, and squash.  St. Timothy’s is nationally respected for their equestrian program and offers community riding and boarding.

Religious Affiliation: Episocopal tradition.  All students are required to attend weekly chapel.

Dress Code: Students are required to wear a school uniform during the academic day and at specified events.

Seated Meals: All students are required to attend lunch Monday through Friday, which is usually family-style with assigned seating that changes bi-weekly.  The goal of seated lunch is that each student will have had the opportunity to eat lunch with each member of the community by the end of the year.  Formal seated dinners occur on Monday and special holidays.

Study Hall: Required study hall from 7:30-9:30pm on school nights, except for 11th and 12th graders on Honor Roll.

Residential Life: There are two residences on campus: Carter House and Heath House. The freshmen all live in the Heath House during their first year. Outside of the classroom, students have the opportunity to participate in over 30 student organizations, such as Model UN and STEM/Math Club. On the weekends, there are school shuttles to Target, Baltimore for an Orioles game, or New York City to watch a Broadway show.
