Curriculum

Pomfret Academics reflect this truth with classes that will challenge you, programs that will inspire you, and faculty that will prepare you. With 55 honors and advanced college prep courses to choose from, our distinctive brand of education has been carefully designed to anticipate your every need and to prepare you for a lifetime of learning — and doing.

Programming

We love the thrill of interscholastic competition. We also value the skills, life lessons, and health benefits of non-competitive teamwork. During your time on the Hilltop, you will get the chance to nurture your higher needs by doing both. After all, friendships are forged, teams are made, and leaders are born in the afternoon. Opportunities such as fitness, performing arts, community service, and many more are available.

Activity/Sports Requirements

Pomfret requires all students participate in an afternoon program consistent with their ability and interest.

Dress Code

During an academic day, students are expected to dress appropriately, no uniform, however, no slippers, leggings, blue jeans, pajamas, sweatpants. On Wednesday- everyone is permitted to wear Pomfret apparel to support our afternoon activities. Formal dress is required for things like Convocation, Sundial and Candlelight service.

Seated Meals

Once a week on Monday nights you attend your advisor's house and have dinner with your group as a family.

Study Hall

Supported Study Hall: In addition to one-on-one class meetings, students in the EDGE program have the option to participate in Supported Study Hall. During regularly scheduled evening study hours, a faculty member oversees and supports each student with a plan to complete nightly assignments in a quiet, monitored environment. Though primarily reserved for students enrolled in our EDGE program, Supported Study Hall may be available to those not enrolled, at the discretion of the Director of Learning Support and the Academic Dean and based on student documentation and level of need. NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Coached Study Hall: Any student seeking a structured work environment during the day may enroll in our Coached Study Hall, which takes place three days each week during a regularly scheduled class block. Students are monitored by a faculty member who provides general executive function strategies during the first ten minutes of each class. Some students may also be required by the School to enroll in a Coached Study Hall as part of a plan for academic improvement. NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Saturday Programming
There are dozens of on-campus activities and off-campus excursions. These include carnivals, fenway park, watching a show on broadway and much more.
Residential Life

More than 85 percent of our students live on campus in one of the twelve dormitories. Third form students live in cozy house dorms located directly across form the main part of campus — a community within a community we call Freshman Circle. Upperclassmen live in one of four larger dorms, known collectively as The Bricks. These dorms overlook Pomfret’s central quad – an outdoor meeting place for student activities like barbecues, dances, and casual socializing. Each dorm unit has a Common Room that’s comfortably furnished and includes a flat screen television and microwave. These areas serve as convenient space for dorm meetings, socials, and a place to relax.
