Curriculum
The Middlesex academic program helps students find their promise through a rigorous education that promotes a love of learning and develops the skills that are essential to education in the liberal arts, the fine arts, and the sciences. By and large, the process for developing these skills is collaborative. Learning requires a meeting of faculty and student minds. With small classes, students have the opportunity — indeed, the obligation — to participate actively in the learning process. Academic departments play an active role in the course selection process. In some departments, such as Mathematics, Science and in each of the languages, the departments place students in the appropriate courses and levels each semester. The advice and placement recommendations that departments provide to a student are supported by expert understanding of Middlesex’s curriculum and expectations, as well as an eagerness to support students in their academic growth.
Programming
From the simplest ride into Sorrento’s in Concord to Senior Prom at Gillette Stadium, student activity never stops. There are the programmed activities, like the Random Dance, the Benefit Ball, and Spring Carnival. But then there are the activities that seem to just materialize on a Thursday: the Red Sox game on Mother’s Day (make sure Mom understands), the van to your art teacher’s favorite Sushi place, the sudden plan to attend a book signing in Cambridge.
Activity/Sports Requirements
With over fifty interscholastic teams spanning all skill levels, each student finds an athletic experience suited to his or her talents and goals. Some students develop as athletes as they sharpen their skills on 3rds and JV teams, while others immediately compete for positions at the varsity level. Our experienced coaches get the most out of their players and prepare them for the next level of competition. For some the next level is varsity. For others the next step is playing for a Division-I college program. A founding member of the sixteen-school Independent School League, Middlesex enjoys a winning tradition marked by pride and spirit. We count on every student for enthusiastic participation in our athletic community—a place where classmates become teammates, teachers become coaches, and fifty teams become one.
Dress Code
Our dress coded is informal. There a fewe times each year when we ask students to be more formal (holiday concert, guest speakers), but generally it's relaxed though appropriate.
Seated Meals
We do not have regular seated meals
Study Hall
Study hours run from 7:30-9:30 each night. Younger students (9th and 10th graders) have to be in their rooms; 11th & 12th graders can study on campus. We also have a supervised study hall for students who need extra structure.
Saturday Programming
Classes and programming happen every other Saturday.
