Curriculum
McCallie offers over 150 courses in 9 disciplines. Their curriculum is split into the upper and middle school. Studies suggest that the pre-teen years are when boys face the highest risk of losing their interest in school. McCallie's Middle School program is designed specifically to engage and motivate the young boy. Our curriculum develops a boy's academic fundamentals and nurtures his love of learning and curiosity about the world.

Study Hall
We recognize there are times when a student may need more help than just an intermittent drop-in will allow. To that end, we have a terrific network of tutors in all subjects and can make arrangements for students to hire an appropriate tutor on a regular basis. These sessions occur in the Learning Center, typically during a free period or in the early evening.
Saturday Programming
We have a wide variety of weekend programming, including trips to our local minor league baseball team's games, concerts, dining outings, and various social events. Our dorms also organize activities like bowling outings, dorm intramural competitions with events like flickerball, water polo, and battleball (just three of our 15+ annual dorm competitions), and frequent pick-up games like basketball or ultimate frisbee on Sunday afternoons. Additionally, we schedule regular community service trips to places like the Community Kitchen and local assisted living facilities. The RAs and faculty also plan various gatherings and events throughout the weekends, creating plenty of opportunities for students to stay engaged, build friendships, and enjoy their time on campus in a structured yet fun environment.
Residential Life
McCallie’s dorms are designed to feel like a second home, offering a safe, structured, and supportive environment for boarding students. There are six residential dorms on campus, each supervised by faculty members (called dorm heads) who live in apartments within the dorms and are deeply involved in students’ daily lives. Most dorm rooms are double occupancy, with a few singles for upperclassmen. Each room typically includes two beds, desks, dressers, and storage space, with access to shared bathrooms, common rooms, and laundry facilities. Dorm life encourages community and independence. Students study together, relax in lounges with TVs and games, and participate in dorm-wide events and competitions. There is also a strong emphasis on structure and routine, with nightly study hours, lights-out policies, and weekend activities organized by the residential life team. Upperclassmen often take on leadership roles as dorm prefects, helping to support younger students.
