Curriculum
In addition to core curriculum courses required to meet graduation requirements, you have the opportunity to take courses that match your interests while developing the skills you will need to succeed in college and beyond. Baylor's Middle School curriculum provides an excellent foundation for students in arts, sciences, mathematics, and humanities. An important strength of our curriculum is that these major academic disciplines are further enriched with special programs that provide even more challenges and opportunities. Baylor is a college preparatory school that engages, challenges, and inspires each student, in every class, every day. We offer a liberal arts curriculum with an emphasis on providing students a broad breadth of offerings along with opportunities to go deep into specialized areas like advanced scientific research, global studies, the study of multiple languages, and advanced study in the arts and humanities. Our curriculum is structured to foster in our students both the ability and the desire to make a positive difference in the world.
Programming
Baylor's Leading Programs allow you to dive deeper and immerse yourself in a particular area of interest. There are both Leading Academic and Leading Athletic programs for students to excel. To further enhance our college preparatory curriculum, we offer students the opportunity to follow one or more areas of concentrated study. Students meeting the requirements have the unique distinction of graduating as a Baylor Research Scholar, Global Scholar, or Civic Scholar.
Activity/Sports Requirements
In addition to our leading academic programs, Baylor offers 17 sports, and fields 74 teams in grades 6-12. Our facilities rival those of many colleges.
Dress Code
Uniforms for students
Seated Meals
No seated meals
Study Hall
No structured study hall. Baylor's centrally located Learning Centers and their open-door approach underscore the school's commitment to student help, provide students with a convenient drop-in environment, remove the stigma that extra help exists only for the struggling student, and allow for students to interact with their peers in an active learning environment. "Extra Help" is a block of time offered three or four times a week to all students. Faculty meet with students during this time for individualized help according to the student's needs. Sometimes the help is voluntary, but teachers also may require the session if they feel students need it.
Saturday Programming
Baylor has a plethora of activities on the weekends. Whether it is on campus activities like fishing or off campus activities like paintball, we have a mixture of both scheduled and non-scheduled opportunities for students. Our director of student activities also coordinates experiences like traveling to Atlanta for a Braves Baseball game. We do not have classes scheduled for Saturday.
Residential Life
The sense of community in our residential life program begins with an exceptional team of dorm parents. To keep schedules and activities on track, dorm parents work with prefects – student leaders who help students with everything from homesickness to homework. They also plan some of the most fun events on campus, including winter games, special dinners, "Galentine" celebrations, and the legendary skit night during Spirit Week. As if our amazing 690-acre campus isn't enough, Baylor is fortunate to be located five minutes away from a vibrant downtown area where you will find incredible restaurants, cozy coffeehouses, boutiques, an expansive Riverwalk along the Tennessee River, fishing spots, and hundreds of other things to do within twenty minutes of campus.
